RELATED: Hood: Outlaws & Legends Review
The Brawler is the most combat-adept character in Hood: Outlaws & Legends. This character can wreak havoc and give even the most formidable foes a challenge. Despite the Brawler’s skill combat viability and sheer strength, without a proper understanding of his features or purpose, players are doomed to fail. Fortunately, these pro tips will allow players to use this hulking character effectively.
Updated April 7, 2022, by Christopher Anaya: Hood: Outlaws & Legends has released much content in the past year, and the developers show no sign of stopping. They plan on continuing to support this unique PvPvE title for many years to come. With the release of new content and quality of life updates, Hood: Outlaws & Legends has changed dramatically. These alterations have influenced much of how players approach the game and the strategies that they will utilize.
Fortunately, the Brawler follows the same simple yet tangibly effective strategy of barreling through enemies and protecting teammates. That is not to say that this method of play has not been improved upon, as there is more to this character than mindlessly attacking foes. As such, players must understand particular tips and tricks when playing as the Brawler, as they will better their odds of winning.
12 Practice Melee Combat
The Brawler is the most proficient melee character in Robin Hood’s Merry Men of legend. Every swing of his hammer threatens to inflict grievous damage, at least early on. As the game progresses, enemies become more powerful and aggressive toward players. So, should the Brawler attack aimlessly, they will have little success. Instead of rushing into heists head-on, players should take time to practice in the single-player training area.
Hood: Outlaws & Legends combat system is nothing too advanced, but it can be overwhelmingly punishing. Missing attacks, mistiming parries, and failing to dodge will prove costly to players. Even the Brawler himself is not exempt from these mistakes. As such, players must hone their skills and become proficient at melee combat. Not only will this prepare the Brawler for fights against guards but enemy players as well.
11 Protect Your Teammates
Every character in Hood: Outlaws & Legends has its strengths and weaknesses. Each character must capitalize on their proficiencies to make up for the flaws of others. The Brawler is the most combat-viable character in the game, making him invaluable during intense battles. In high-alert situations, stealth is mostly ineffective. This leaves both the Ranger and the Hunter at a significant disadvantage which the Brawler must compensate for.

The Brawler should always be ready to help his teammates whenever the situation calls for it. It is his responsibility to protect allies, especially those that struggle to defend themselves. In doing so, the Brawler acts as a stalwart guardian, allowing his teammates the opportunity to retreat, recoup, make progress, etc. Should players fail to protect their allies, they will soon find themselves at a substantial disadvantage.
10 Do Not Pursue Enemies
Playing as the Brawler is a riveting and often rewarding experience as few things are capable of stopping him. He can power through most opponents and face overwhelming odds without much stress. The power of the Brawler will often drive players to go on frenzies, during which they look to start battles and pursue enemies. However, doing so will prove to be a costly and fruitless endeavor.
Should the Brawler go off in search of a fight, he will leave his teammates susceptible to enemy attack. Considering that he is the de facto protector of the team, this can result in the demise of teammates, especially those that are comparatively weaker. Although it seems beneficial to pursue enemies and dwindle their numbers, it will often provide foes with the opportunity to dispatch the Brawler’s teammates.
9 Lead The Way
The Brawler is an absolute powerhouse of a character, as they can sustain a great deal of damage and dish it out. He boasts impressive offensive and defensive capabilities that contribute to his role as a combat-oriented character. Being the formidable character that he is, the Brawler should lead his teammates during situations when combat is a likely occurrence.
Doing so will make him the first line of defense should the team encounter any enemies. The Brawler can fend off oncoming foes from this position while his teammates support his efforts. Being confined to the middle or back of the group would only limit his potential and result in an arduous battle. So, unless the situation does not demand it, the Brawler should lead his teammates.
8 Watch Your Back
The Brawler is a formidable force in heists, especially during high-alert situations. With this proficiency, however, comes danger, as it makes him a likely target for the enemy team. While the Brawler can handle numerous opponents at once, he cannot effectively defend against assassinations or other sneak attacks. Whether the Brawler is carrying the chest or in combat, they should always be watching their backs.
Since the Brawler is a challenging adversary to face directly, the enemy team will likely send the Hunter to dispatch him. Being a master of stealth and assassination, she can make quick work of this hulking giant. As such, the Brawler must always be prepared for an assassination attempt. He is a prominent member of a team, so his death can dramatically change the outcome of the game.
7 Beware Ranged Enemies
While the Brawler is a capable melee fighter, he lacks any ranged capabilities. This makes him susceptible to enemies that can attack him from afar, such as the Ranger with his deadly longbow. When dealing with these foes, seemingly the best strategy is to charge at them. However, this likely will result in the Brawler becoming a human pin cushion. There is, fortunately, a better method for dealing with ranged adversaries.

Players should take advantage of the Brawler’s defensive capabilities to counteract these opponents. By blocking, he can deflect incoming arrows and bolts while slowly making his way toward the attacker. The ranged assailant will either continue their assault or fall back, granting the Brawler the opportunity to get in range. Upon doing so, he can take advantage of his melee prowess to effortlessly dispatch enemies.
6 Be A Distraction
The Brawler’s frightening presence garners the attention of enemies. This plays well to his role as a fighter meant to take on numerous threats. Thus, allowing the Brawler to become the ultimate distraction. He can grant his teammates time to retreat, recoup, or progress without difficulty. While doing so may seem reckless or counterintuitive, it offers innumerable benefits to teammates.
If the enemy team is closing in on the key, chest, or winch, the Brawler can slow their advance. He can challenge them and keep them preoccupied for a period. While the Brawler does so, his teammates can use take time to further their objective, bringing them closer to victory. Even if the Brawler ends up dying, he will grant his team enough time to make considerable progress.
5 Utilize Your Trait
Every character in Hood: Outlaws & Legends has a unique trait that suits their purpose. The Brawler’s trait - Resolute - allows him to lift portcullis gates, temporarily opening a new path for him and his teammates. In doing so, he creates a quick path through once blocked-off areas found on every map in Hood: Outlaws & Legends. Despite being such a beneficial trait, many players forget to utilize it.

By taking less direct routes during high-alert situations, players waste valuable time. The path through portcullis gates offers the most direct route to an objective. Thus, allowing the Brawler and his team to meet their goals quickly. In addition, portcullis gates can be used to escape from enemies, as the Brawler can let his allies pass and then close the gate on enemies.
4 Use Explosives Sparingly
The Brawler already is a devastating force in battle and his gear is equally destructive. Along with his sledgehammer, the Brawler carries deadly explosives. These bombs are capable of taking out groups of enemies, and can even take down the Sheriff momentarily. While explosives are a useful item, the Brawler should not use them mindlessly.
Bombs should only be used in the direst of situations. Using them on enemies that the Brawler or their team can deal with easily is wasteful. Explosives are most beneficial when players are being pursued by the Sheriff or overwhelmed by enemies. Regardless of how tempting it may be, the Brawler must conserve their bomb supply.
3 Reserve Your Ability
Each character’s ability provides them with incredible power to use against enemies. The Brawler’s ability - Wrath - enhances his already great offensive and defensive capabilities. It allows him to single-handedly take on multiple opponents without any effort. The Brawler’s ability is exceedingly useful during expansive battles or high alerts.

While the Brawler’s ability is exceptional in combat, it takes a long time before players can use it, meaning that players should do their best to save it for late-game confrontations. Earlier stages focus on stealth and battles, which will not require the Brawler’s ability. Moreover, fights against a few guards or a single player will likely not require Wrath either.
2 Carry The Chest And Wind The Winch
Every character is capable of carrying the chest and winching, but some are more efficient at these tasks. The Hunter and Ranger will struggle, while the Mystic and Brawler can easily perform these duties. Overall, the Brawler is the most effective character for lifting and winching.
Unless it is necessary, no character besides the Brawler should complete these objectives. While the Brawler is a capable fighter, performing these tasks will benefit the team much more. Even if the Brawler’s team cannot adequately defend him, he can stop and fight opponents himself.
1 Dominate Late Game
Hood: Outlaws & Legends separate the game into three distinct stages using objectives. With each phase, the game shifts from stealth-based gameplay to combat-oriented vies for the objective. While some characters suffer in this later stage, the Brawler prospers. Without the need to stay hidden, the Brawler is free to unleash his full power upon enemies.
In the late game, players should utilize the Brawler’s physical prowess to eliminate enemies and winch the chest. Using the resources he has on hand, the Brawler can effortlessly clear out enemies and defend his teammates. This phase allows the Brawler to go all out, and players should engage in every fight to come out on top.
