Regarding the new machines, there were some deadly additions to the roster of mechanical foes. Perhaps none are more intimidating and lethal than the Apex Slaughterspine, an enemy that can give Aloy a thorough challenge at even the highest level in Horizon Forbidden West. According to one video as well, it seems that should a player take down the tough machine, that doesn’t necessarily mean they get to walk away with their life.

As shown in a short clip by user AkinToTheBreach on Reddit, a Slaughterspine can kill the player even after it dies in Horizon Forbidden West. Just as the Slaughterspine takes lethal damage and begins to topple over, it lets fly a laser attack from its tail, splitting the ground in front of it and catching the player and their mount. This attack alone isn’t enough to take Aloy down, its damage over time kills the player.

This is because the Slaughterspine’s lasers apply the plasma elemental effect. Again, usually this wouldn’t be enough to kill a player on its own, but AkinToTheBreach was venturing through Horizon Forbidden West on Ultra Hard difficulty, which will make most attacks from tough enemies a one-shot kill. This death could have been avoided by AkinToTheBreach had they used a Cleanse Potion. Or, as users pointed out in the comments of the Reddit post, they could have simply run into some nearby water, as that also gets rid of elemental effects.

Apart from showing off a strange case of mutually assured destruction, plenty of other Horizon Forbidden West players have been sharing their interesting moments from the game. One player managed to weaponize Firegleam in Horizon Forbidden West, using the environmental obstacle to wipe out a load of enemies. With so many users posting their favorite moments, it is clear that Horizon Forbidden West is a popular title among gamers, and this was further proven recently when the game picked up a Best Game award for 2022.

Horizon Forbidden West is available now on PS4 and PS5.
