However, Hulst promises those who have been patiently waiting for the chance to play Horizon: Zero Dawn that the choice is in everyone’s best interests, as it will not only provide developers ample time to ensure a spectacular launch, but also provide fans with the well-polished game they deserve. Of course, Guerrilla Games’ Managing Director explains in full why the change in the game’s release had to be implemented, and thanks fans for understanding, as he writes:

We realize that this decision may not please everyone. At the same time, we’re confident that the advantages of the additional development time afforded by the new date will become clear in the coming months, as we start to share more cool details and videos from Horizon: Zero Dawn. We really, really appreciate your patience and continued support, and look forward to bringing you the best game we possibly can in February 2017."

On top of the announcement for Horizon: Zero Dawn’s delay, Guerrilla Games also put out a brand new trailer for the game, which can be found above. Entitled “Aloy’s Journey Trailer,” the footage provides a glimpse into the origins of the title’s female protagonist, her search for the truth behind her status as an outcast huntress, and a better look at the game’s technologically advanced creatures that roam Horizon: Zero Dawn’s spacious open world.

Although Horizon: Zero Dawn’s delay may be disheartening to some, it’s best that Guerrilla Games is holding off on putting the title out until its assets and gameplay are up to the studio’s standards. After all, as famed Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto has aptly said, “A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.”

In any event, Horizon: Zero Dawn still has plenty of surprises in store for fans, as the developer apparently has promised a big reveal for E3 2016. Ever since its official unveiling to the world at last year’s Electronics Entertainment Expo, details have been relatively scant to say the least, so fans should expect more in-depth coverage this time around. Taking all of this into consideration, even though the news of Horizon: Zero Dawn not being available until 2017 is somewhat discouraging, it’s still safe to say that it remains as one of the PlayStation 4’s most exciting upcoming exclusive games.

Horizon Zero Dawn is currently slated for release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on February 28, 2017.
