While House of the Dragon spent half its season with Emily Carey as Alicent and Milly Alcock as Rhaenyra, fans will now be taken forward ten years in time, where they will see an embittered Alicent and a harried Rhaenyra, who chafes more than ever at the expectations of the court. While Alcock and Carey embodied the naivety of these two young women as they finally take their places at court, new House of the Dragon footage has teased the cast change....

This week’s “The Black Queen” closed off House of the Dragon season 1 with the series’ climax being the death of the young Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault) at hands of his uncle Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) and his behemoth of a dragon, Vhagar. The moment is one of the turning points in the civil war between the two Targaryen factions, however, the series’ depiction was always meant to be more nuanced than Martin’s recount of the event in Fire & Blood....

The University of California (UCSF) researchers discovered a neural biomarker, a specific pattern of brain activity that indicates the onset of depression in a patient and customized a commercially available device to recognize that pattern and electrically stimulate another specific area of the brain. By surgically implanting the device, the team, led by assistant professor of psychiatry at UCSF’s Weill Institute for Neurosciences, Katherine Scangos, created an immediate “on-demand” therapy that was unique to the patient and to the neural circuit that triggers her treatment-resistant depression....

The Peloton app is home to thousands of live and on-demand workout classes including cycling, running, HIIT, yoga, and body strength training. Rapid expansion was the name of the game in Horizon Forbidden West. The sprawling new map that brought the American Southwest to life contains lots of new machines, as well as a ton of varieties on known machines that kept combat fresh. Guerrilla Games seemed to go into quest design with the same principle, believing variety was the spice of life. Ultimately, however, Horizon Forbidden West’s side content feels like it’s stretched a little too thin across the open world....

During a Twitter conversation about the game, de Jonge revealed that the team once had guns in the open-world action title, but that the weapons were removed because they “didn’t feel right for the game.” Unfortunately de Jonge didn’t elaborate on what “some guns” means, but it’s obvious the team gave serious thought to their inclusion in the game. However, it is clear that guns won’t ever be added to Horizon: Zero Dawn considering how well the bow-and-arrow action has been received by gamers and how strong the game feels without gun-type weapons....

According to Sony, to date Horizon: Zero Dawn has sold 3.4 million copies. In an interview with Glixel, Sony Interactive Entertainment America president Shawn Layden says the game got Sony off to a good start in 2017 with a very successful launch, especially for a studio who stepped out into a new genre: Interestingly, Horizon: Zero Dawn put up good numbers in digital sales via the PlayStation Store, which has accounted for 915,000 of the total sales so far for Horizon: Zero Dawn....

Gamers have had experience with futuristic games like Fallout and its Armageddon, but Horizon took the future to a new level by creating a millennium’s worth of lore. Horizon Zero Dawn revealed bits and pieces of humanity’s history from the 21st century in its gameplay - from their struggles against climate change to inadvertently creating the Faro Plague extinction event. Zero Dawn ended with Aloy foiling HADES’ plans to end all sentient life on Earth, but the protagonist only gets six months of respite as the blight rendered land expanses uninhabitable at the start of Forbidden West....

While playing the Horizon Zero Dawn demo, Norris explains that he’s on a quest to obtain a resource from some of the canisters found on the backs of a herd of what the game calls “Grazers”—that is, a group of large, robotic creatures resembling over-sized deer. However, Guerilla Games’ senior developer keeps it a secret as to why the title’s female lead character Aloy needs to acquire it. Of course, the art in Horizon Zero Dawn isn’t final, but as with previously shown gameplay footage, fans get a look at an updated version of the in-game HUD, displaying a compass, health icon, and level-up bar....

Although still technically in early access, Phasmophobia is currently in a pretty polished state, and the developer releases patches and small updates on a nearly monthly basis. Kinetic Games plans to be more transparent in Phasmophobia patch notes in the future, after a poll revealed that players want every detail about what’s been changed in the game. And a 2022 roadmap shows that a lot is planned for Phasmophobia in the coming year, including upgradeable equipment, new challenges, the ability to customize characters, and a revamped VR system....

Frictional Games confirmed as much on its blog page, and also explained why it took so long for SOMA to be profitable. For one, the game experienced a five year development cycle, making it the most expensive title for the studio to date. Combining the costs of the developers’ salaries, paying the voice actors, and outsourcing the animation, Frictional estimates that SOMA took 10 times the budget to create than Amnesia did....

House of the Dragon had a fast trend upwards. Despite the ending of its predecessor being controversial, to say the least, House of the Dragon premiered to nearly 10 million viewers, a figure comparable to that of Game of Thrones when it was almost at its zenith.
